Great Romanian Ladies

It is said that behind every great man there is a great woman supporting, encouraging and loving him.

The same can be said about a country. Behind a country’s great destiny, there are always the women, who, as much as the men, built and shaped a nation’s history.

Meddling cautiously into politics for the better interest of their country, supporting and creating opportunities for generation after generation of painters and musicians, contributing to the war effort and fighting for the causes of the lesser, mothers, wives, diplomats and artists all at the same time, the great Romanian ladies of the 19th and early 20th century, left their indelible mark on our country’s history.

Had it not been for women such as Martha Bibescu, Elena Vacarescu or Queen Mary, the Romania we know today, our history and the artistic heritage we are so proud of, would have looked and been very much different.

On the 13th of November Fundatia Calea Victoriei invites you to a attend a lecture about these great Romanian ladies and all the other women behind the scenes of Romanian history. Women who, sometimes Romanian by choice and marriage, not by birth, have dedicated their lives to this country, being at the avant-garde of society, adopting Western fashion trends when their husbands still wore Oriental clothing, fighting the Romanian diplomatic cause in the high society circles of Western Europe, promoting the arts and educating the young, hoping to shape a country that the next generations could be proud of.

We will take a trip back in time to meet these ladies, to know them intimately, to share their dreams, loves and hopes and to walk alongside them the streets that they walked a hundred years ago. So, please join us on a lovely late autumn Saturday morning to talk about art, music, history, great ladies of olden times and Romania as it once was.
